News from Nebraska

The Nebraska Branch of the Members' Committee held a Potluck dinner meeting on Sunday, Aug. 16. Don Gerbeling, Cathy Torske, and Mike Torske represented the Committee. We had 26 guests show up and one of them, Pat Knapp, is an attorney. The meeting lasted 3-1/2 hours in which the Committee members reported on the class-action lawsuit, the do's and don'ts of paying dues, what states were in bankruptcy, and what parks were completely lost.

We also tried to answer several questions on reselling contracts, harassment by Travel America, and how to contact us for information. One question we had no answer for was: "Where is the money that was collected by the company from the campers and other users of the park?" We want to know what has been done with the money?

One of the guests was one of the volunteers who has been taking care of the park (Thorenhaven). It was mentioned at the meeting how well the volunteers had done to keep the park in good running condition with very little help from Travel America. We believe all of the volunteers at Thorenhaven deserve to be thanked for their hard work and dedication.

We would like to thank all the people who attended the meeting and for their donations. We would also like to thank Donna Gerbeling, Chris Torske, and Jason Torske for their help at the meeting.

One Final Note: The park at Thorenhaven was to close on Tuesday, Aug. 19 because the electrical bill wasn't paid. The bill is well over $1000 and some of the people that had campers at the park were asked to remove them. The company that was using the main front office was able to get a reprieve for their office so the park has not been closed as of yet. The park has limited facilities and we do not know how long the park will remain open.

Editor's Note: The Committee is indebted to Mike and Cathy Torske for their efforts and their dedication. They are helping distribute copies of the newsletters, holding informative meetings, etc., and thereby absorbing some of the workload. It is okay to send donations to them if you have been doing so. It goes to the same cause of helping ALL members.
