Example Letter

If 'any company' is trying to make you send them money and you have notified them that you do NOT want to be a member, the following draft letter, with a copy of their bill or your "Memo" of their phone contact should do the trick.

To Whom It May Concern:

I have been harassed by your company concerning a debt you allege I owe. You have been notified that I do not want to be a member of your club. I do not intend to use your facilities nor pay dues/maintenance fees.

I am instructing you do not contact me further in connection with this alleged debt. Under the law, you may not contact me further once I have notified you not to do so.

Violation of these instructions will be reported immediately to my attorney, appropriate Attorneys General, the US Federal Trade Commission, and to other appropriate officials and agencies.

If you hear from them again - file a complaint immediately with the US FTC at the following web address as an unfair/deceptive practice that you want the FTC to stop. Be Brief - but thorough :

You should also file a complaint with the Attorneys General:

  1. in the state where the camping club is operating,
  2. where their home office is,
  3. and in your state.
