The National Association for Members (NAM) has obtained
the following note from the Iowa Consumer Protection Office, Office
of the Iowa Attorney General. It is being distributed so that
members of the traveling public can be better informed and might
use appropriate caution:
Quote:
Our office recently received a copy of a letter which Red Oaks
Trails Resort sent to "Dear Former TAI Member" which
informed the recipients that our office had requested that they
adopt all former TAI members. This letter also either stated or
implied that our office was directing them in other matters of
solicitation or recruitment. These representations were incorrect.
While our office will sometimes make recommendations, we do not
direct the business practices of any company.
In fact, our office had been contacted by consumers who were being
solicited by this company. Several of the company's sales practices
raised concerns with our office and we met with representatives
to remedy the situation. During that meeting, and in later correspondence,
our office outlined our concerns and the steps necessary for the
company to avoid further attention in the future. These concerns
have not yet been resolved to our satisfaction and our office
certainly has not entered into any type of partnership with Red
Oaks Trails Resort.
We are taking further steps to remedy our concerns with the company's
business practices. However, please advise any consumer who contacts
you that we have not approved the company's business practices.
Thank you for your assistance.
